Magtanim ay ‘di biro: Ormoc City Mayor Richard Gomez share farm-to-table meals

Many Filipinos are starting new hobbies or online businesses to maximize their stay-at-home quarantine during this pandemic. This is also the case for some of the well-known personalities and politicians in the country.

It is no secret that Ormoc City Mayor Richard Gomez has become fond of gardening in his backyard farm. He constantly shares his “homemade” harvests through his various social media network accounts.

Farm-to-table fruits and vegetables

In one of his past vlogs, Gomez showcases some of his farm-to-table meals. “Pechay guisado – another farm to table meal. I dedicated this plot for planting pechay last month and here I am today harvesting a batch, using it to cook a very simple yet hearty dish. I also shared the harvest with some of my friends,” he mentioned on an earlier post.

But did you know that his plentiful harvest has evolved from vegetables to fruits?

In a recent Instagram post, Gomez shared a bounty of santol and avocado fruits from his backyard. The actor-turned-politician shared, “I am so happy to see how much we were able to harvest today from the santol and avocado trees in our backyard. As the saying goes ‘the thankful receiver bears a plentiful harvest’.”

Going back to basic

This pandemic affected all types of individuals, despite their wealth and status. This simple yet creative way of starting a backyard farm gives more benefit than just a quarantine hobby.

Gomez also encourages people to start farming to have a healthier lifestyle. “Anybody can start their own farm at home even in a small backyard or garage. It’s true that magtanim ay ‘di biro. It gives us more benefits than just being cost-effective. With your own harvest of fruits and vegetables, you can be sure that you and your family will always have fresher and healthier food on your table all the time,” the mayor concluded.
